When does a riff on a classic cocktail turn to something entirely new? Inspired by the thought experiment of the same name, we invite you to sip on this delicious conundrum.



  • 1 ½ ounces Rittenhouse
    Straight Rye Whisky
  • ½ ounce Kirschwasser
  • ½ ounce Chicory-Infused
    Vermouth di Torino*
  • 3 dashes Orange Bitters
  • Green Chartreuse
  • 3 Kirschwasser-Soaked
    Cherries (Garnish)

Bartender's Notes

Mist a cocktail glass with Green Chartreuse and set aside. Add the rest of the ingredients to a mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir, then strain into the prepared cocktail glass. Garnish with 3 Kirschwasser-soaked cherries.

Chicory-Infused Vermouth di Torino*


  • 25 grams Dried Chicory
  • 750 milliliters Vermouth di Torino


Add both ingredients to a non-reactive container and let steep for approximately 20 minutes. Then, fine strain through a coffee filter into a clean bottle and store under refrigeration for up to three weeks.
